Discovering Your Purpose

Questions From This Episode:
What truly matters to you?
What legacy do you want to leave?
Where do you feel most alive?
And what do you believe God might be calling you toward in this season?
Hey guys — welcome to our first podcast episode. Over the next 3 weeks, I wanted to share some thoughts, and also some questions for you to think about, on developing your purpose, your “why,” and how to turn it all into a clear action plan.
Over the past few years, I have witnessed several brothers at church that seemed healthy, and within a few weeks they are gone. No longer able to serve the Lord, no longer able to help mentor younger guys and gals in the church, and not there for their family.
I always wonder, what impact would they have created, if they just had a healthier body and could continue to serve for another 5 or 10 years. We never know what God has planned, but keeping our bodies in good, working order, gives us a chance to find out.
Today, we’re starting with something foundational. Something I believe every man—especially in the second half of life—needs to revisit.
Purpose.
Now, I’m not talking about a motivational slogan or something you write down once and forget. I’m talking about real purpose. The kind that wakes you up. The kind that carries you when life gets hard. The kind that connects you to something far greater than just a to-do list.
Let me ask you a simple but important question: What are you really here for?
For a lot of us, life has been busy. Work, providing for the family, checking boxes, taking care of what needs to be done. But at some point—often around midlife—we start asking: “Is this it? Is there more?”
And the truth is… yes. There is more. But it’s not about doing more. It’s about becoming more aligned with who you were created to be.
Scripture says in Ephesians two ten, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
That means your life is not random. It’s not just about surviving each day. You were created on purpose, for a purpose. And even if you’ve felt off course or stuck lately, that purpose is still there — waiting for you to come back to it.
So what does that actually look like?
Well, let me offer a few questions to sit with this week. Nothing complicated. No pressure to have the “perfect answer.” Just take some time, maybe on a walk or in your journal, and reflect on this:
What truly matters to you?
What legacy do you want to leave?
Where do you feel most alive?
And what do you believe God might be calling you toward in this season?
Sometimes, purpose isn't found in a loud moment of revelation. It comes in stillness. In prayer. In paying attention to the small nudges that say, “This is it — this is what matters.”
And remember, your purpose doesn’t have to be some big, dramatic mission. It might be showing up for your family with integrity. Serving at church. Taking care of your health so you can serve longer and stronger. Sometimes purpose is found in the quiet, faithful things.
If you’re not sure what your purpose is right now, that’s okay. You’re not behind. You’re not broken. You’re being invited to rediscover it. That’s what this series is about — and we’ll take it one step at a time.
Next time, we’re going to talk about your “why.” That’s the fuel that helps you live out your purpose, especially when things get tough. But for now, just give yourself some space to reflect.
Maybe pause after this episode and ask God to speak. Ask Him to bring clarity. And then just listen. Be open. You don’t have to figure it all out today — but you can start the conversation.
Because you were made for more than drifting through your days.
You were made on purpose… for a purpose.
Talk to you next time.
